Over the past two decades, educational agents have been considered to support learners' needs and facilitate learning in learning environments. This study aimed to identify the useful and effective characteristics of the educational agent in the learning environment qualitatively by conceptual content analysis. This study's statistical population was all faculty members, graduates, and PhD students in the field of instructional technology at Allameh Tabataba'i and Tarbiat Modares universities. The research data were collected using a semi-structured interview through a purposive sampling with the participation of 14 members of the statistical population. According to the GT method, all data collection stages were performed using three open, axial, and selective coding steps. Consequently, four main categories including role, appearance, sound, and gender were identified for the educational agent. In the next stage, the related subcategories were also identified for each main category. In order to validate the findings, the structural equation modeling was used to confirm the extracted factors and the fitting of the model. The findings suggest paying more attention to the pre-mentioned four components and related factors to design an educational agent in the learning environment.
